The best city for me is only Berlin. Because in Berlin we have Clubs with nice dark Music, like the fabulous K17.
Sorry, my English isn't perfect _________________ [Nicht die Schönheit entscheidet wen wir lieben, sondern die Liebe entscheidet wen wir schön finden] |

Don't care for the language skills 'cause K17 isn't fabulous either... _________________ Frei nach Kafka:

Correct. The K17 is okay actually, but don't expect more than real good music (DJs), concerts und drinks at a fair price. It is located in the backyard of an industrial building, mostly plain concrete, and the interior seems to adapt that design. It's true that on almost any day you can go there, but some people with a lack of experience think it's the center of Berlin's Goth-Life - it is not, there is much more to discover.
I recommend to have a look at www.etoile.de for all kinds of "gothic"/"underground" party & concert dates. They have a calendar for all regions of Germany, but only for Berlin it's mostly complete. (Choose "PLZ-Bereich 1" on the main page.) |

So, I'm most likely going to be in Berlin the Tuesday & Wednesday before Treffen. (Maybe the Tuesday or Wednesday afterward, too). Looking online, it looks like most of the big clubs are only open on weekends.
What's good to do? Doesn't necessarily have to be goth, just fun... open to just about anything! Where do people who don't have day jobs go to party?! |

The walking tours of the city centre are excellent and very cheap...well worth the effort and you can just turn up...XtraX will be half empty as most of the stock will be somewhere between Leipzig and Berlin (we made that mistake a few years ago)...the Last Cathedral bar has to be seen, wonderful atmosphere and some bloody awful cocktails that get you wrecked
I thought that K17 was great, although I think Insel was better (although a pain to find)...there is more than enough to keep you busy for a few days.

This thread has been dead a long time!
I am most likely going to stay the rest of the week after WGT in Berlin or maybe somewhere else in Germany. Anyone have any suggestions on things to do or see?
Mark, could you possibly give some links or addresses to some of those places (couldn't find any concrete links on Insel via the web)? _________________ "When did tech become goth?"

Some clubs would be nice, of course your usual touristy stuff is good too... also, I like to see the beautiful features of cities like the buildings, canals etc, things that are interesting. Maybe there are some really great stores which are unique to Berlin, or a restaurant to try. _________________ "When did tech become goth?"

The next time I will be in Berlin i definitely will visit the "Berlin Unterwelten" (Berlin Underground).
It's all about what is below our feets (old brewery cellars, abandoned subway stations, WWII and cold war bunker, etc.)
I guess this is not the "normal" tourist stuff but for me it seems extreme interesting...

If you're into museums, then you're quite in for a treat in Berlin; I'd recommend my favourites: the Deutsches Historisches Museum (fantastic exhibition about 2,000 years of German history), the Museumsinsel (with various museums and world-famous artifacts such as the Altar of Pergamon, the bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum, and the medieaval and renaissance arts exhibition in the Bodemuseum), and the Jewish Museum. All of these places aren't only interesting for their content, but for their architecture as well. And then, there's the Bröhan-Museum (Art Nouveau and Art Déco), the Ethnologisches Museum in Dahlem (Africa, the Americas, Asia, etc.), etc. etc.
Here's a good starting point for museums: http://www.museumsportal-berlin.de/en.html
If you're in Berlin for longer, you should also take a day off to Potsdam (it's very close) and visit the baroque and rococo palaces and royal gardens there. _________________ Ti ringrazio, Mondo, che imperturbabile sei, in che non giudichi le maschere della Mediocrità. (Elena Previdi) |

That looks fun but possibly a little intimidating to a lone first timer. hehe

Historical museums would be awesome, I would especially like to see some suits of armor and the like. _________________ "When did tech become goth?"

The Deutsches Historisches Museum has some of that stuff, some weaponry and a historical tent as well, so it should be good for you. Maybe you should also check out the Zitadelle Spandau, which is a beautiful Renaissance fortress - it also has a museum and a winter quarter for bats (which you're not able to see unfortunately), but its greatest charm is the atmosphere when you take a walk around the premises. http://www.zitadelle-spandau.de/ _________________ Ti ringrazio, Mondo, che imperturbabile sei, in che non giudichi le maschere della Mediocrità.
